‘Seek ye first….’
Priorities. Everyone has them. What do you consider most important in your life? If you were to make a list of priorities what would be at the top? Second? Third? Fourth? etc?
Most of us who call Jesus Lord would say that the Lord is our top priority. He is first. He is our greatest treasure. But sometimes our reality doesn’t match our ideals. Priorities emerge and are revealed in the decisions we make.
Like the classic story……
Surprised to see an empty seat at the Super Bowl stadium, a diehard fan remarked about it to a woman sitting nearby.
"It was my husband's," the woman explained, "But he died." "I'm very sorry," said the man. "Yet I'm really surprised that another relative, or friend, didn't jump at the chance to take the seat reserved for him."
"Beats me," she said. "They all insisted on going to the funeral."
Though most of us would say that God is the number one priority in our lives, I wonder, would our decisions say different?
The reality is that our priorities are often in flux. The great news is that even if our decisions currently reflect a messed up priority system, we can return to our first love. Course corrections and reproofs are the way of life for the follower of Jesus.
Tomorrow we will discover some ways in which we can cultivate a ‘Jesus first’ kind of heart.
Hey, don’t forget to fall back tonight!
